We’re at a crossroads. The Alex Theatre is ready to reopen, BUT we need your help. We’re not going to sugar-coat it: this is a big undertaking, and it’s going to take all of us to make it happen.
We could have stayed closed. It would have been easier. It would have been cheaper. But that’s not what Fitzroy Street needs. Our street is struggling, and the Alex Theatre is a crucial part of its recovery. We believe in this street, we believe in this community, and we believe we need to take action, not just talk about it. The Alex Theatre is an anchor, bringing life and energy to Fitzroy Street. It brings people who support our local businesses – the restaurants, the cafes, the bars – the places that make our street special.
Reopening is a gamble, financially. It’s a huge cost, and we can’t do it alone. We need you. We need your support to bring the magic back to the Alex stage and to Fitzroy Street.

That’s why we’re expanding our focus at Alex Read Theatre Performances Inc. to support artists at the intersection of art and technology. We’ll be providing education, resources, and a community where creatives can explore the exciting (and sometimes scary) possibilities of this new era.
