It is with heavy hearts that we bid farewell to our dear friend and creative comrade, Baron Pasquale Riccardo Roberto Maria Palmieri – or simply, Pasquale, as he was known to those who walked beside him.

Pasquale was more than a man of many names,  he was a man of immense depth, vision, and passion. A true renaissance soul, he defied convention at every turn, marrying artistry with architecture, heart with intellect, and legacy with rebellion.

Born with an architect’s precision and a poet’s eye, Pasquale charted an unconventional path that led him from the classical forms of Italy and Canada — where he studied under greats like Bruno Zevi, Paolo Portoghesi, Moshe Safdie, and Ray Affleck — to the vibrant and ever-changing skylines of Melbourne and beyond.

He began his professional journey in the 1990s, mastering the technical intricacies of large format still-life and advertising photography. But the built environment always called him home, and he returned — digital camera in hand — to capture the soul of architecture with unmatched intimacy and reverence. Through his lens, structures breathed. Spaces spoke. Light became language.

His prolific body of work reads like a love letter to both the old world and the new — capturing projects across a vast portfolio of visionary clients: Gunn Hayball, Fender Katsalidis, Bruce Henderson, Grant Amon, Peter Keam, and Harcon Group; national and international hotels from Sofitel to the JW Marriott; and iconic locations such as the Shrine of Remembrance, Rippon Lea Estate, Hisense Arena, and the Royal Botanic Gardens. His photographic signature can be found across continents, but always returned home to the theatres and buildings he loved most — including The Alex Theatre STK and The National Theatre.

Pasquale was not just a documenter of form — he was a builder of cultural memory. Every shot he took held the same quiet reverence with which he carried himself in life: elegant, precise, and always unapologetically passionate.

Beyond the camera and the drawing board, Pasquale was a writer, a thinker, and an advocate. Through his publications like Think Before You Commit and platforms such as No Fear, Just Do It, he challenged people to face life with courage, clarity, and conviction.

To know Pasquale was to enter a world of deep conversations, theatre’s chaotic joy, and spontaneous laughter. He was both anchor and instigator. A theatre cohort and mentor. A conspirator in beauty, and a relentless seeker of truth. He made every space richer — and every project more meaningful — simply by being part of it.

We mourn the immense loss of his presence — but we celebrate the indelible mark he leaves behind. In every photograph. In every structure. In every shared memory.

Pasquale is survived by the creative community he helped shape, the many friends and collaborators he loved deeply, and the countless stories he leaves behind in image and word.

Rest well, dear Pasquale. You lived as you saw — fully, vividly, and without compromise.
